/>I get many emails requesting my opinions about Dr Mercola’s dietary advice so its time I wrote a blog about it.

Im sure Jo Mercola is a nice guy and obviously has a passion for sales & marketing and thats fine but the numerous people Ive heard back from when they follow these quack, low carb, high fat diets has inspired me to speak up so others can learn before they get suckered in by the enticing ‘buy 2 GET ONE FREE!’ speel.

Mercola advises people against eating a fruit salad but advises people follow ‘metabolic typing’ and eat fried chicken livers for breakfast and ‘depending your metabolic typing, use pig fat or coconut oil…’

The dude is a snake oil salesman with a capital S.

Mercola recently put up an informercial in the ‘Huffington post’ talking about the dangers of eating fruit ‘cos its got fructose mate!’. The question I ask is how come they can never do a study on human fruit eaters vs using studies done on rats using GMO HFCS? That would be worth noting.

Mercola tried to ‘debunk’ the china study. For those that don’t know what the China Study is, its just the most comprehensives nutritional study ever done..so its no big deal.. It was put together by Dr Campbell and has over 700 studies corroborating its findings. Mercola said its not ‘accurate’. Number of studies Dr Campbell has published?: Over 350. Number of studies Mercola has published?: ZERO.

Mercola even sells ‘restravol’ on his website. He does ‘you the favour’ of extracting the ‘harmful sugars’ from the grapes and then providing you with the ‘left over antioxidants’… Hang on Mercola? Arent you just selling suckers the left overs from the wine industry?

One look at his site (the huffington post article had about 5 links in his article) and you have a whole plethora of ‘industrial waste products’ pedalled as ‘superfoods’ and ‘latest breakthrough’ in ‘advanced nutrition’.

So, what is an industrial waste product? Well its something a company has left over and needs to be dumped. Whey, grape seeds/skins, fish oil etc..these are all left overs from food industry and big profits are to be made on gullible customers that buy into the hype the snakeoil crew spout during their informercials on late night tv, magazines, MLM flyers etc.

Also how come these ‘guru’s’ all have pictures of fruits and vegetables on their sites/books etc to promote a healthy image but then go on to sell BS and say ‘don’t eat too much fruit now…fruit is bad!’ I say ‘yeah, bad for business!’

Heck, just advise your customer base follows a low carb diet and in a few days their glycogen stores will be so low that they will be even more naive and malleable and help you make even more profit margins from selling BS to peeps that cant tell fact from fiction.

Here are some other observations Ive made recently..

Has anyone ever wondered why the sudden emergence of ‘longevity strategists’ are always around 25 -35?

Has anyone ever wondered why all the low carb diet guru’s use the same photo shopped photo from 2 decades ago and or they NEVER have any real cardio fitness? (oh thats right, ‘cardio is bad for you!’)

Has anyone ever wondered why despite all the miracles their low carb diet books promise, that the authors themselves don’t have much more fitness and health than the average SAD eater?

Has anyone ever wondered why the nations today that eat the least animal products and eat the most fruits/whole grains have better health and fitness than western crew that have more money than sense and buy into the carb phobia crapola?

So bottom line, question what is encouraged and by doing that, it will help you build up more ‘critical thinking muscle’ so you can decipher thru the confusion and marketing delusion. Sure there are lots of sincere people out there just trying to make a buck, but the majority of them are sincerely wrong. By keeping your glycogen, hydration and sleep levels stocked everyday, this will help you stay on track when others get trapped in the mud pit of the ‘sales pitch’

raw vegan blood tests and durian eating competition

going for a bike ride...

I rolled out 202km that day. I know of some runners that do that in a fortnight!

Today there was a 10km road race on the Gold Coast Australia. I did 115km on the bike yesterday and 70km of that was a race in B grade which I ended up coming 4th out of 32 riders. So perhaps not the best preparation for a running race. I dont know.

I picked some fast runners and did my best to hang on to em and after 6km, I just had to keep em in sight as I didnt know where to go as the race had a lot of corners that were not marked. So my motivation was primarily to not get lost and it worked great as I set a new PB in the 10k.

Its given me some fire to commit more to consistent running and get some ultra marathon wins under my belt, now that Ive won a few 24hr solo mountain bike races, its time to start focusing on something else.

Ultra marathons are great cos you dont lose time on the tech sections and dont have to worry about spares or having a race losing mechanical.

Im training up for the Gold Coast marathon in July, a few months away. My fastest marathon time is 3:06 and I will smash that year for sure.

Why you should sit on the couch and eat yourself silly..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 343px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AjoRnXJpYG0/S5XdHZUQvEI/AAAAAAAAACc/ZqbLtNo1ROQ/s400/30BADvibranceAd_d3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446502443499174978" />
Want to recharge and reset yourself?

have a month of not doing anything much physically and just sit on the couch and watch empowering doco's and chow down as many sweet fruit calories as you can fit during the day.Bananas, figs, grapes, mangoes, melons, stone fruit, raisins, blended dates.. Heck, if you can fit 10 000cals then do it! You will do your body good by having a month off ANY real exercise. Just get up and start drinking then start eating! Have a month of 'OFF SEASON' and I GUARANTEE you or anyone will be smashing harder than ever before.

We will get enough movement just going shopping or putting out the compost or doing some stretching. Im talking about no running, jogging, cycling, weights etc for a month.

So that is my perscription. EAT, GORGE, FEAST, SLAM IT DOWN! (slowly) and hydrate and rest/sleep up like a champion and reap the rewards over time.

What would we do for a prisoner of war person? would we get em exercising and calorie restricting? No way! What about a chunky chubster? Would be starve em and tell em 'he double but/thunder thighs, you gotta starve a bit to get the weight off fatso!' NO WAY! Rather we would get em BOTH carbed up, hydrated up, rested up etc so their body has the fuel to repair, heal and nourish.

What would we do for a rat that we found caught in a box in the cupboard that was emaciated? We would feed that little bugger till it was at full force and let it do its thing. What did I do with a fat caged pigeon I found once? I just fed it unlimited amounts of the most natural foods it would eat and it dropped weight in days!

Percy Cerutty was one of the greatest athletic coaches ever. He forced his runners to have breaks up in cabins with stacks of quality plant based food and lots of books and no running shoes. He told them that if he caught them sneaking out and training, he would no longer coach them!

Both people with superskinny or supersize need to chow down more fruit than they feel mentally comfortable with. Why? Cos the superskinny are near death and the supersized are eating foods that will cause their death.

By eating jabba the hut sized fruit meals, we help our body rebuild, repair, nourish, hydrate, strengthen itself. We find it easy to stay away from the death food cos we are meeting our bodies physiology rather than thinking we have to become more disciplined or some other crap like that. We will find it easily to be drug free/crackao free, drama free, 'im a victim' free.

Pound in the fruit and make homer simpson be proud of you peeps!

training with a power meter.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_AjoRnXJpYG0/SzlE2CaTyzI/AAAAAAAAACU/pCSfREEy9aI/s400/mail.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420439321667947314" />
for the last 6 months ive been riding with cycleops powertap pro+. this model had all the features of the more exspensive ones with just a few extra grams and standard bearing rather than ceramic.

why train with power? power shows what we are actually doing and heart rate shows how we are responding..so its like a weight lifter using a heart rate monitor in the gym rather than using the amounts of weight they are actually lifting...

when we use both heart rate and power, we have more objective information of what we are actually doing and how we are responding. if you want more info, go visit www.saris.com or read the articles on other sites about the virtues of training with power. since 2002 each january ive been a 'tour guide' for various pro teams that visit Adelaide South Australia for the Tour Down Under. I have the fitness and road knowledge to take these teams out for anywhere up to 1 day to 10 days. Ive had the chance to train with some household name riders including oscar periero, jonathon vaughters, erik zabel, lance armstrong, igor gonzalez de galdeano etc. Riding with these sort of cyclists lets me see market, dietary, recovery, training trends etc long before they become mainstream cycling knowledge. Over the last 3 years ive seen more and more teams using power meters like powertap and srm cranks. This year 2009 i saw a massive increase in power meter usage and so i decided to make my training more objective and learn more about myself and get a power meter!! :)

WOW! I have found such an improvement in my training time, results and understanding since using a power meter. its been great to see how undereating of fruit saps my power even though my heart rate will remain the same. its so good to see the massive drops in power when your glycogen tanks starts to redline. often in our head we make up how we feel but the power meter doesnt let you bullshite yourself! after riding with it for a month or so and understanding how it works, you know how much workload you should be doing for any given interval, recovery ride etc.

when i first got my powertap, one day i went out riding and bumped into jack bobridge and rohan dennis. these neo pro's are local riders in my area and are regularly seen riding laps up and down the local mountain ranges. so anyways i was sitting on their wheel up this climb and i havent raced for a bit so my fitness is average. after a few minutes i was really struggling to maintain contact. then i remembered i had my power meter so i turned it on and checked to see what i was actually doing. i was ridng at 390-410 watts!!! no wonder i was struggling! lol! my best power output on this 15min climb has been 321watts. so i knew that i was ok when getting dropped at 390watts after a few minutes and it wasnt anything to do with hydration, sleep, glycogen etc rather it was just due to the fact i was riding over my personal best.

ive also learnt that for me to spin easier gears at around 90-110 rpm is better than grinding bigger gears at a lower cadence (rpm) and infact ive even switched to a compact crankset to maintain optimum cadence in my hilly area. now i understand why many pro riders like tyler hamilton, ivan basso, alberto contador etc use compact gears in certain hilly races. i always used to say that compact gears were for whimps! but then i proved my macho ego wrong with power output data!!!

there is to ways to increase power when pedalling. 1. push harder or 2. spin faster. pushing harder creates more pressure on the knees and uses more energy but spinning faster is easier on the knees and the fast momentum of your legs helps save energy for when it really counts like making the break, sprints or more distance etc.

so training with power you can objectively quantify know what you REALLY are doing! training by average speed, heart rate, wind, distance etc is nice but there is too many variables for it to be very accurate. power on the other hand is the most accurate way to train.

power meters are getting better value all the time and the powertap seems to be the most popular due to its accuracy, price, weight and ability to quickly swap between bikes!

my first ultra marathon...

yurrebilla 56km ultra trail marathon, adelaide south australia. first time this event has been ran as on official race. first time ive ever ran 56km, so i was excited to see how id go in an ultra marathon despite only running around 260km this year. some runners i talked to at the race registration do that in a fortnight, so after hearing that i hoped my cycling fitness and raw vegan stamina would help me finish my first ultra marathon.

after 15km i was ready to pull the pin, as my right arch and hip flexors were protesting quite intensely. i got to the 20km mark and the first aid crew offered me some nurofen but i told em im better off listening to my body and let my body decide if it wants to continue rather than block out the pain with drugs and risk a real injury.

as i continued to the next check point i slowed right down and asked myself why my legs felt so sore, i guess my lack of running had left my legs more prone to impact fatigue and when the gun went off, i ran with the leaders for the first 10km and we smashed the downhills and in hindsight, i was better off running my own pace and trying to hold a consistent pace for the entire race rather than blowing my legs to bits and crawling to the finish.

freelea said that morning before i cycled to the start to 'have fun'. so i looked at how i could make the rest of the ultra 'fun'. i caught up to the slower runners that had started a few hours before us and had some nice chats with em and got to see the trail at a pace where i could appreciate more details around me.

i finished in 8:55 and ate fruit the whole day. before the run, during the run and after the run. i carried 300g of dates and 1 large banana and this was enough for the entire run as i was fully carbed up from a few days solid eating and drinking prior to race day.

so where can i improve? DO SOME MORE RUNNING! :) that way i will reduce my chance of injury and get to really use my aerobic fitness to full effect.

i highly recommend anyone have a go at an ultra. start off slow and resist temptation to run at 10km race pace when you have another 6hours in front of you!
marathon training in thailand

yesterday rolled out of bed, slapped on the pegasus, gulped 600ml of water and stuffed the mp3 in my pocket and headed out on a 23km circuit of this island in thailand we have been staying at.

after 30 min i started to get in the groove and things felt even more efficient. it was just another reminder that training decisions are often best made on the road. cos its easy to say yes or no when we are sitting down, but its how we feel on the road that really counts.

moral of the morning was : it doesnt matter if you wake up feeling great or not so great, what matters is that you transmutate what ever attitude you are feeling into something you feel proud of..<br in georgetown penang and ducked into a shop and left my calfee bamboo road bike outside and came back out and it was gone! :(

so if anyone sees a calfee bamboo with green chris king headset, hubs and 10spd dura ace... :)

i feel everything in life happens for an empowering meaning. for me losing my bike was a lesson in detachment. i felt anger for a moment and realised that im better off transmutating that emotion into some more positive. so i just stopped being angry and started talking calmly with people that might have seen anything.

not having insurance i focused on how much money i had lost. but then i shifted my focus to how much people have given me in my life. i simply shifted by focus and started feeling grateful when only moments ago i was furious and outraged.

it was a lesson in life that what we focus on determines how we feel...
so if we dont like how we feel, we must simply shift our focus. it doesnt mean we never feel negative emotions but rather we choose not to dwell on them and get stuck in a rut. lets let them serve their purpose as a reminder our focus has shifted in a direction that we dont really want to be going..

now im riding a beat up xc bike that doesnt really fit me, but im having fun cos i refuse to let lack of material things prevent me from the joy of movement.

this lesson has taught me that as a cyclist, happieness is not what bike you ride, but rather happieness is just an emotion we choose to feel in the moment. cos the moment is all we have.. :)

keep on roll'n, regardless of what lessons come your way. :)
my dad passed a few days ago...

this aint a post for sympathy, rather its a reminder that life is short, precious and fleeting and we are here to make a positive impact rather than dwelling on negativity and being guilty of a wasted life.

i got the news a few days ago that my dad had lost his battle with radiation therapy and the big pharma poison cocktails that he chose to sign up for. my dad new the natural options but was happy with the doctors orders. just as he always accepted my lifestyle, i accepted his. im not bitter, depressed or angry at my dads choices, preferred state of ignorance or how forceful the doctors were in pushing his immune system to literal death.

sure i had a tear for a minute. but then it occured to me that people can pass thru our hands but never our heart. that i can chose to live by the values instilled by my father or i can do what society says i should do. get depressed, get violent, get abusive, get drunk, eat crap, mope in bed all day, wear black, mourn and walk around with heavy shoulders. just like they show us on tv.

i say no. i say im gonna live how i know my dad would want me to live.by this i mean to continue living the health and fitness based lifestyle that he was proud of. what lifestyle is that? its the one that brings me the greatest joy. its not to be confused by 'living for our parents' but rather living in a way that brings joy for all those that love us, be those people be in our hands or our hearts.

my brothers have decided to use dad's passing as an excuse to lower their standards. an excuse to focus on what they have lost. rather than the peace that dad has gained. an excuse to follow societys list of 'this is how we expect you to act if someone dies'.

so we can see that its not our genetics, its not our upbringing, its not our education, its not our looks, its not our religious beliefs, its not our traditions, rather, its merely a choice in the moment to focus on whats good in our life rather than whats bad..

in the cycle of life, there is death and birth. it would be crazy to not accept this. it would be like crying every time the sun went down each night. rather we should focus on the fact that we are still alive and here to do a job. its called living our life purpose.

my dad said once' you gotta keep on riding no matter what the terrain!' so of course im not gonna sit down by the side of the road cos the hill got steep all of a sudden.. :)

i believe that life is to be celebrated. not mourned.
i believe that its against our loveones wishes to be sitting around dwelling on negativity and using our loved ones passing as an excuse to lower our standards to physical and emotionally abusing ourselves with food, drugs, booze etc.

i believe experiencing emotions of pain and despair are merely signs we are not being grateful enough.

im grateful i have the mental capacity to remember all the good times with my dad.
im grateful i can use this life experience to help others achieve the positive focus they deserve in times of apparent adversity.<div so i love you wind. i love you with all my heart. thanks for being with me in training today.. see you bright and early tommorrow..

today there was a fun ride. over 7000riders. 143km course. i gave em 80min headstart so i could pass thousands of em wearing the organic athlete kit and riding the bamboo. then i rubbed it in more and rode the 3hours home with cars atop with bicycles passing me the whole time.

everyday we have a chance to contribute to a better planet. every moment, of everyday..remember this! cos ITS YOUR POWER!

i rode with lance armstrong today...

im not sure how i got past the 9 police, 4 bodyguards and team crew. you can even hear a bodyguard start up..but they were ok after they realised that im not a terrorist threat..lol!

here is the video link.
http://player.video.news.com.au/adelaidenow/?uFSVv_4yF0c3c8xt7BwOYQBcGiASrHdB

3hours in the mountains around adelaide. lance was more interested in my bamboo bike than what i eat. his assistant, elizabeth was on a motor bike following and taking shots. she called me back and asked me about what i eat. she told me lance has a close friend that is a vegan athlete. she almost fell off the back of the motorbike when i said 'actually im a raw vegan. 100% raw plant foods. NO COOKED FOOD EVER!, i get my carbs from fruit.' she was like' but you ride so fast! thats insane!'

then we hit a 7km climb and i attacked off the front. i was going too fast for lance and the team, cos they just let me go. i guess the guys are saving their legs for the real race that starts on sunday.

somehow i made a video of the ride and will post it on youtube shortly..
when i got back to the city the local journo's did a story. it will run in tommorrows paper that has over 500 000! readers! lol! the journo loved the part about how i can eat up to 60 bananas in a day and ride 515km in a day.

so now lance armstrong knows whom durianrider is..lol! the crazy vegan dude from adelaide that races a bamboo bike..

ok, gotta go hydrate, carb up, rest up, stretch up etc, cos who knows what opportunities tommorrow will bring us?
210 miles on new years day.

rode just on 210 miles yesterday. start the new year with a bang. these new years rides always end up solo...as i can never find training partners do go that distance.

it was about 14hours saddletime with sun, rain, wind and bergs to provide the training stimuli. i picked a course that provided RAAM like conditions. and was lucky to have such diverse weather for the ride.

i stopped off at a friends cert organic farm and grabbed some peaches. i carried a lb of organic raisins and that provided the fuel in between fruit stops.

the bamboo bike rides a dream. i dont feel as beat up as i used to on other bikes. but i also know that the hydration and level of glycogen efficiency i now have makes a huge difference.

how do i feel today? i feel great. i feel like i got some solid miles in the legs yesterday and that it will provide some good conditioning for my upcoming state and national 24 solo xc races.

well im about to do a few hours recovery spin and go spend the afternoon eating and pick'n organic peaches for sunday market..

so go long this year...go way long.
a question about my lifestyle..

this one landed in my inbox just then.

its a common quesiton. i thought id share it here.

i love your lifestyle!!!!
Date: Dec 20, 2008
Message: I am just so amazed at your videos.....I love them.......you are wonderful....but I want to learn everything i can about you.
your so right about everything.....so right.....how can i learn about your lifestyle ...how can i learn how to live like this.....? where do you live and how do you support yourself....??I think you live in australia...but i heard that that was not a good country to go to ....and that is is dangerous right now...Like America and Canada and Mexico is dangerous...right now and that is true....but i don't know why they said Australia was dangerous...

I was thinking of Costa Rica.....but at least Australia speaks english....can you help me....i have been searching for a long time to find a place to move to....sandyyou are amazing.....!!!!!!!!!I will watch everyone of your videos......in hopes that i can get help..to live a better life......

MY ANSWER IS AS FOLLOWS.

thanks champ!

where to live? EVERYWHERE IS DANGEROUS if you ask fear based people. and EVERYWHERE IS WONDERFUL is you ask love based people..i travel a lot. i ride my bike hours each day. sometimes i fly. i do consults.i do live in consults. do talks, bike races etc. i do hard labour on organic farms. i sell vintage clothing and books. do housesitting. i wheel and deal and keep it raw and real by being savvy and buying organic fruits and veg as my main priority financially..

we dont need more money, we just need to learn how to live with less money and spend it on the things that are important!..organic fruit and veg being number 1 thing to invest in.

where to live? thats like asking what the best bicycle seat is..its gonna be different for different folk. my advice is just go and taste different fruits. see different places and meet different people.travel light. live light. be light. uneccessary possesions are just uneccessary burdens..how can we live with more than we need, when others live with less than they need?

i know people that own organic mango farms in paradise and they are eating hotdogs and getting drunk each night..so its just a reminder that nothing makes us happy but THE CHOICE TO FEEL HAPPIENESS IN THE PRESENT MOMENT..what we seek is seeking us...go within to start with.simple life fueled by simple sugars found in ripe sweet fruits...

living clean and crisp like organic celery. use our body for transport. lets celebrate human movement and get into organised sports, dance etc. lets know, believe and act on the fact that the no drug can 'replicate being high with health and fitness and a lifestyle based on contribution and life purpose'above all, we must listen to our heart and follow it....lets be open to the truth, even if it overwhelms us and upsets us..
ways for me to get 'in the moment'...

nude sunbathing.
birdwatching
exercise
focus on breathing
atttitude of grattitude ie focus on what im grateful for in the present moment..ie my legs, the sky, the birds singing, the fruit dancing on the limb...

right now this moment, im sitting in public mall. i found a power socket and plugged in. the wireless internet is floating for free in the air. i have a group of drunks around me. but cos these drunks are black, people are reacting and trying to ignore them. its funny to watch. what am i doing? well, one chap just asked me for a smoke. i gave him the durianrider smoke free pep talk and told him to stay true to his aboriginal culture and avoid selling out to the white mans poison plan..he smiled and said 'you is alright bruz!'.

fcuk, someones gotta speak up. lets share the message of health, cos its the greatest gift we can give...

who are we to decide if someone is ready to hear the truth? exactly. speak from the heart. its our duty..
<img width='1' fuel to help the farmer produces more ripe, raw, organic, fruit fuel gave us a great sense of contribution.

as an avid birdwatcher, i really enjoy my times on organic fruit farms as these places create havens for flora and fauna amongst the chemical mess of conventional ( poison) farming..

we did a quick trip to malaysia for a durian feast fling. 10 days of d24, raja kunyit, mosso king, d2 and some kampong varieties made for a trip to remember. we congradulated stall holders and went to a durian farm and got em direct. locals saw our healthy living practises and got inspired. malaysia, thailand and singapore are eating more ice cream than durian now! save the durians! save the cows! save the trees! save your ass! save your health! eat fruit! lol!

im back in radelaide. racing, giving talks and having cherry feasts under the trees.

my highest value in life is contribution, i do whatever it takes to get the message of health out. on this path we will get met with ridicule, apathy and stony faced opposition. i stuck up many flyers for this weeks talk, i even saw one get ripped down in an organic shop, a hospital and off a raw website forum! some people just dont like the message getting out. they let the lack mentality/jealously whatever get in their way. my message to those is 'there is enough abundance for all, have integrity and never fear the truth, suppress the truth or avoid the truth, as doing so will just lead you to even more heavyness in your heart'..
what do i do?

firstly i make sure im hydrated, carbed up and well rested.

i ensure hydration by ensuring when i urinate at least 8 -12 times a day that it APPEARS CLEAR.

i ensure being carbed by eating 10g of carb per kg of bodyweight. for me thats 10 x63kg = 630g of carbs per day. thats around 31 bananas or equivalent.

i ensure im getting at least 10-12 hours a day rest/sleep.

i ensure daily activity. might just be jogging for 5mins, a walk with grandma or a 24hour solo mountain bike state championships. i MOVE EVERYDAY! and it keeps the lymph from getting sludgy and when lymph gets sludgy, we feel sludgy and have feelings of apathy etc.

by taking care of these 4 MAJOR points, i find it super easy to see life light and breezy! cos ive got enough sugar to my brain(people with depression always have blood sugar issues) i have enough hydration and i have enough rest to build up reserves of MENTAL ENERGY, and ive done enough exercise which forces deep breathing to keep me balanced.

society is all about starving yourself on fruits and veg and then going binging on something sweet and salty. we under eat fruit and then go binge on potato chips (sweet and salty) etc.and then we beat ourselves up about it! and say 'your weak! your pathetic! this world sucks! i hate my life!' lol! all because we just neglected on fruits, water, exercise and sleep/rest.

but lets say ive taken care of the above 4 points. lets say ive had enough carbs, water, rest, exercise and i just cant shake the blues? what do i say to myself??i say 'wow harley, youve been a champion and taken care of your 4 basic needs, yet you still feel emotions of overwhelm, depression, anger etc. why is this? why are you choosing to feel this way? why are you focusing on problems instead of solutions? why are you choosing frustration instead of fascination? why are you choosing irritation instead of inspiration? etc etc. and ALWAYS i can come up with an empowering answer. often its just cos im taking things personally, making things in my head bigger than they really are! ie im MAJORING IN MINOR THINGS!just like i could become a stamp collector or focus on making the perfect lamp shade! who cares! lets focus on stuff that really contributes to making this world a better place for us, the animals and the planet. by living our purpose like this, we get a massive sense of contribution, significance, love, growth, certainty and variety! which according to a lot of crew are the 6 human needs.

SO TO FEEL DEPRESSED IS AWSOME! as it shows us we are not meeting our 4 physical needs or that we are focusing on things we cant control instead of focusing on things WE CAN CONTROL.. it shows us we are using negative self languaging, it shows us that we are holding our posture bad. so instead of slouching put your shoulders back and chest out and smile, instead of focusing on how you feel bad, focus on how you could contribute to the planet, instead of having negative self languaging, have positive languing! ie:are you? 'not bad' or you could say 'fcuken amazing mate!'

people whom say that dont get feelings of depression are either lying or they are boring! lets just not dwell on it and let it grow bigger than it needs to. lets act quickly on meeting our 4 physical needs (carbs, water, sleep, exercise) and then go from there! cos 99% of the time if we neglect those 4 physical needs we will be biased towards negative thinking. see those 4 needs like legs of a table. if one is shorter than the other, the table will be unbalanced! so before you start popping pills or drugs or medicating yourselves with cooked foods, animal products etc MAKE SURE YOUR TALBE LEGS ARE EVEN AND LONG ENOUGH!

do i ever feel negative emotions?

and just to show you that durianrider walks his talk in times of adversity...

my grandpa died from fatal heart attack last friday.
my mother has heart disease and finds it hard to walk more than a few metres of a time now.
my father got diagnosed with prostrate cancer last week.
and i got told a few days ago that my oldest brother got diagnosed with emphysema.

so how do i choose to feel? angry at the food corporations that sell poison? frustrated at my familys inaction to take control of their health. depressed that my grandpa hated his life so much that he did nothing to change his diet that he knew was killing him? depressed at the fact i know my dad would rather die from cancer than change his diet?

no, im not gonna even entertain these emotions for longer than 10 seconds.. rather, im choosing to keep powering away and CONTROLLING what i can control. not focusing on what i cant control. im gonna use this adversity to move me forward and become an even better role model for health.and at the end of the day i still love and accept my family, its just that im not gonna let their negative habits affect me in a negative way. cos i know if i did, and my grandpa were alive, he would slap me in the face and say 'what you moping about boy!?, get out there and live!'

do i ever get pissed off?

do i ever get pissed off? sure! im not on a positive mental cloud 9 ALL the time, for a few seconds throughout the day i get feelings of anger or pissed. but i dont dwell on it or let it influence my day.

negative thoughts are like weeds in your garden. you dont want to totally get rid of them because that would be unatural, but rather you want to turn those weeds(negative thoughts) into mulch for your garden of abundance!

so when a negative thought comes up,my true self says 'what is a better way to see this? a way that will empower you, the animals and the planet?!!' and with that sort of self languaging that i LIVE BY you can see that im not a lucky guy with my lifestyle, but rather ive earned it via daily disciplines that head me in the right direction.

what we think about comes about, wether we want it or not..

why is raw so hard at the start???

well i felt the same at the start.a few reasons why..1. most of us dont enough fruit carbs in one sitting. we eat like mouses and expect to charge like horses...it doesnt work that way. its like putting fuel in a car. we gotta put away enough fruit to go the distance. as im sitting here, im not truly hungry. but im gonna eat a 7lb orange meal anyway. why? cos i gotta bike race tommorrow and need to keep the carb tank topped up. cos WHAT WE EAT TODAY, POWERS US TOMMORROW. i could wait till i was hungry later on, but then im leaving it too late to get enough carbs to win tommorrow club championships! lol!

2. for some, they dont know how to transmutate the SUPER ENERGY one gets on 811. its just insane the amount of life force you get. and cos your eating enough, you can smash out mega miles once your fit enough. deep down im a couch potato. but 811 has saturated my core and FORCES me onto my bike to share the message.lol! to win races and run marathons. otherwise id be going back to rancid nuts or cooked food to transmutate the kundalini, energy, dharma or whatever we like to call it. so key point TRANSMUTATE THE 811 GLOW INTO YOUR LIFE PURPOSE FLOW!

3. we are so used to numbing our stomachs with heavy foods like animal products, nuts, seeds, combo abombo's, cooked food etc. once our stomach flatens and empties we mistake this for hunger..but TRUE HUNGER IS ONLY FELT IN THE MOUTH AND THROAT, NEVER THE STOMACH..thats just the stomach emptying its contents. and often we get that feeling the next day, cos people are just putting breakfast on top of lunch on top of dinner, day after day, week after week...so when we stop that crazy stuff, the stomach will take a while to adjust..we just gotta stay true to our integrity as the body realigns itself.

4. your not getting enough calories. sure we can eat a large fruit meal one day. but we gotta back it up. i can fit the volume now. but i still gotta be aware of how much fuel im getting vs expending. being so busy its easy to forget to eat and go on adrenal. but this aint sustainable. so we gotta tap into finding the fruit hookups. learning how long it takes to ripen, learning how it should taste and learning what amount will hold us and for how long..

bottom line isif you crave nuts or avocadoes. ie more than a slice or a handful.YOU HAVENT EATEN ENOUGH FRESH SWEET FRUIT.

if you crave cooked food or animal products (concentrated calories)YOU HAVENT EATEN ENOUGH FRESH SWEET FRUIT.

when i was transitioning between cooked and raw, id always go back for cooked vegan food. and it was ALWAYS A CARB BASED MEAL, ie rice, tofu burgers, pasta, vegan pizza, vegan cakes and cookies and donuts, vegan chocolates etc. cos if we dont supply the body with enough simple sugars from fruit, its gonna demand what i was used to living on before..and that is refined sugars like honey, agave, maple or cane sugar. and its gonna crave extra caloric density from cooked starches like yam, rice, pasta, corn chips etc.

craving food that requires heating?
then eat more fruit and give those cravings a solid 811 beating!

time goes fast when your having sun!

freelea and i is training like animals. i raced 3 times last week. got 3rd in a road race behind the northern territory time trial champion chris loynes and under 23 australian time trial champion matt king.

these guys ride hard and its good conditioning. im sure my vo2max is over 80 now! lol!

i gotta learn to take my own advice sometimes..and my advice to myself regarding marathon running is 'more miles in training, means more smiles in racing..

this year ive done a 16km road run that was up and down a mountain. and the longest run i did on flat tarmac was 10km. 10 days before yesterday..

other than plain lack of training, i had everything organised. i felt carbed to go the distance, hydrated, warm enough, got there on time, mentally focused and amped up, correct fitting shoes and socks, shorts and singlet and running cap. every detail down to my heart rate monitor belt feeling perfect...but none of it could make up for the fact that my cycling legs had not been provided with sufficient road running impact to be able to handle the pace i desired to run at..

so at least i got 27km of solid running in my legs yesterday. even if i had to walk up to this keyboard with my tail between my legs..

thanks for all the support you crew provided. i will be back to have another sub 3 hr marathon crack.._________________

2 questions i get asked often..

any quesiton, any time. always! cos thats what im on the planet for, to help people help themselves with healthful practices that help the animals and the planet too...

first quesiton i get asked a lot 'what certification do you have harley?'.

certification? yeah, im certified by mother nature. and i give myself the certification of self love and self approval. cos thats all that matters in the end. me trying to get pieces of paper to prove my worth to people that 'respect paper more than results'..well, thats not my style.

my creditials are the results i get for myself and others. i know this is the optimum way. do we seek credentials from a dolphin before we try and emulate its swimming and sonar abilities?

do we seek credentials from a blue jay for its singing ability? i dont seek credentials from anyone. credentials mean NOTHING to me. RESULTS MEAN EVERYTHING..lol!

next question..am i fulfilled 'wasting' my days via cycling, birdwatching, talking to members in my direct community face to face or online, racing, sleeping, resting, fruit foraging etc?

no this doesnt fullfill me...cos IM ALREADY FULLFILLED! being fullfilled is same as being happy. ITS JUST A CHOICE AND ONLY EXPERIENCED IN THE PRESENT MOMENT..so i choose to be happy, be fullfilled, be grateful and that AUTOMATICALLY CHANGES MY FOCUS TO THINGS THAT BRING MORE HAPPIENESS, FULLFILLMENT ETC..

but hey, we only know till we DO IT. we cant 'try' cos try is a lie! lol! we DO IT or we DONT. one or the other. pick one and go with it!

the simple life is the best. if loads of money brought happieness and fullfillment then via do millionares rock stars kill emselves or do coke daily? EXACTLY! more money equals more problems..just like more stuff we own is really more stuff that owns us in the end..'poor 'people dont need more money, they need more quality food and water and simple shelters. they need us fat cats and money grubbers to share our profits with industry that creates simplicity in the world. 'poor' organic fruit farmers in rural towns are ignorant to the abundance they have in their life already. they pick up newspapers and see an advert for a fancy house, car and high maintenance wife or hubby whom loves beer n beef. ..

life is about what we do, not what we have. its the moments we create via daily magic which we treasure for the rest of our lives that count.

i used to be motivated by what society THOUGHT of me. now im motivated by what society NEEDS of me. society needs me to be happy, athletic, raw vegan, positive and vital. so thats my job..I WORK EVERYDAY..lol!

the day i have a day off, is the day i check off the planet.

so go get em champ!

95% raw or 100%?

what does our body want? NEVER!' then half way up the hill i thought, 'have i met my match? and its time to turn around or start walking?' and then my true self answered, 'you aint met your match, you just been provided with a temptation that you can overcome via being non judgemental with the pain and just accepting it as part of your athletic destiny...'

all this deep thought whilst my heart rate was sky high, whilst the jungle screamed as loud as my legs and lungs. whilst people stopped walking down to watch me pedal up.

then 2 weeks later i got challenged on another hill. i didnt know how long it was. it just kept going. i chunked it down and we rode to the top. there was a chinese veg grower on top. a lady wearing a tshirt that said 'made from milk.'. we dropped the bombs and the old gran gave us the thumbs up.

when we resist the powers of temptation, we just transmutate those powers into our life purspose...

FEEL THE POWER! EVERYTIME WE SPEND OUR DOLLARS, ITS A VOTE FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE IN!

sitting outside the organic shop and eating another melon yesterday arvo, i heard a dog yelping. the chick near me said to the man walking the dog 'oi ya fuck'n cruel bastard!' and her bloke stood up and pretended to give a fcuk about animal welfare...whilst thinking what sauce he would have on his steak that night..lol!

anyways, i piped up straight away with 'are you a vegan?'. angry lady replied with 'no!, why you ask?'

me: cos you sound like you really care for animals. you talk like a vegan..

lady:i dont like seeing animals get hurt...thats all.

me: so your a vegan then?

lady: YOU FCUKEN VEGANS PISS ME OFF! WHAT IS IT WITH YOU VEGANS!

me: dude, chill, why you freak'n? im just asking how you can pay a butcher to murder a lamb, but if a person on the street pulls the leash too hard, that you swear at him. but to other animal torture crew, you give em money and praise. im confused. please explain.

lady:im out of here! your extreme. and are you that fruitarian that rides his bike around the world. are you a fruitarian? are you? ive heard about you!

me: no, im a raw vegan. i still eat more than fruit. so how did you know i was in town?

lady walking off in a huff with beefy bloke: it doesnt matter.

me between bites of melon: have a good one champ!

i love conversations like this. you know you hit em straight to the heart. you got em disturbed and questioning their integrity. questioning their beliefs vs what they are doing in real life..you cant pay for therapy like this..you gotta go out onto the street and talk to REAL PEOPLE in REAL LIFE SITUATIONS!

the more ruthless i get with speaking the truth as i see it to absolute strangers, the more amazing crew i meet. im getting insane synchronicitys..just another sign we are living our purpose..

they say the quality of our life is in direct proportion to the amount of uncertainty we can handle..
what does this mean? it means walking up to a stranger with some info you know will help. like the dude i met on a bike path yesterday. he had acne. i said your acne is largely caused by drinking milk. stop the dairy and youll get clear skin. he said 'thanks'. i know he will remember it forever. who stops you on a bike path and says you shouldnt suck cows tittys?

so yeah, face the uncertainty and expect massive growth in all areas of your life. some crew can even go on holiday without making hotel bookings before hand. what happend to meeting people on the plane and going with the flow of uncertainty? CERTAIN that whatever happens will be a lesson provided by god to make us stronger in our fight to protect the planet...

only when we step out of our comfort zone, can we look back and see that we werent that comfortable after all!
<img width='1' height='1' fattest kid ive ever seen in malaysia! lol!'

i cut thru the hype and went straight for the heart. when someone has so much fat covering their body, so much apathy..you gotta do whatever it takes to get the message accross.
i highlighted the situation.i gave em the solution.i do this everyday. we gotta help people raise their standards by showing them how high ours are. show em what is possible. help em help themselves.

we live in a society that turns the tv on everynight.
to 'see' whats wrong, to see whats right.
i type='text'>another day, to show em the raw vegan way..

i aint liv'n if i aint contributing to the planet!... we meet crew on the street during our 'raw beat' and share with them info that will positively change their lives if they choose to TAKE ACTION. lawyers, junkees, pro athletes, models, mothers, children..nobody escapes! lol!

we stormed a mcdonanlds yesterday here in malaysia. parked out bicycles out front and got peoples attention. we shouted the resturant down inside. yelling 'mcondalds is cancer, bad for health, eat durian! eat rambutan!'. we got positive response cos we said it in a positive fashion..ie you win more people over when you say something with a smile and enthusiasm..lol!

before we did macca's we had riden a lap of the island. we like to train on the steepest roads around. so steep you can hear your bike weep.. and we do em once a week at least, to keep the lymph pumped and fitness developing..we rode roads that road bikes arent meant too, but when the thighs are burn'n, we are getting higher learn'n..

we swam in rainforrest streams, got plenty of sunbeams and that night had durian inspired dreams..

today i set a personal best up the local mountain trail. last week i did it in 1:16. today i was more prepared and had more purpose. 57:37 was my time. im not sure if its the raw vegan diet or the enthusiasm it gives me...but i went into everday incline and log jump without hesistation or restraint..i reached the summit and stopped the watch. shouted out to the world my life purpose... its powerful when we share our direction and goals on mountain tops, cos when human and mountain meet, the things that follow are sure to be sweet..

i took it easy on the way down. a butterfly acting as my 'coach'. it landed on the trail in front of me. i stopped on a dime. and sat down. the butterfly telling me that 'extreme exertion must be followed by extreme recovery..' so i sat and shared the trail magic with my butterfly friend. i hoped it would be around long enough to taste the nectar from the mango flowers that are starting to bloom..i wondered if this butterfly had a relative that pollenated the durian flowers that produced last nights durian dinner that provided me with the carbs to set a personal best, up the mountain this morning..the carbs that fuel EVERY cell in my body..

the butterfly flew off. i meditated for a few minutes on the morning sunlight that was starting to weave its way thru the primary rainforrest canopy. yep, i was alive. present. and living my purpose.

thanks coach.
<img durian..

i was look'n for a dude in a suit with other suit crew around him..but when 4 dudes walked past me and one looked like tony, i hesitated in approaching them, cos i
